Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year which is the most important festival for all of us is often at the end of January or at the beginning of February.

There’s a legend long time ago. There was “Nian” which was a big and strong monster. Human beings were scared about it because it ate human and animals. So human beings hided when it came out. Later people found that the “Nian” was very scared of the red colour and fireworks. Then people used red clothes and fireworks to scare away “Nian”. That is why we wear red clothes and play fireworks today.

On new year’s eve, I went to my hometown with my parents. Grandparents were busy all day to prepare for a big meal with meat, fish and vegetables. House is cleaned. Colourful lanterns are hung and all kinds of beautiful flowers are shown in the house.

On the first day of the new year, almost everyone wears new clothes and new shoes. When they meet everywhere, they say “Happy new year!” to each other with happiness. People often give red pockets to others when someone say lucky words, such as Wish you prosperity or Everything goes well or May all your wishes come true.

I like Chinese New Year the best in all the festivals.
